Memory foam mattresses and Memory foam beds. explained in important detail.Visco elastic is the technical term for Memory foam. This type of foam was used in the USA by the Nasa space program many years ago to help astronauts with g-force on take off. Memory foam had been developed and was not released into the open market but did find its way into hospitals to treat patients suffering from bed pressure sores. Memory foam distributes bodyweight more evenly than any traditional mattress, thus reducing pressure build-up, which can lead to neck, back and joint discomfort developing during sleep. The manufacturers making memory foam for the hospitals are called foam converters. Once they had released how good this new material was (Visco-elastic) these manufacturers started to introduce their products into the mainstream domestic bed and mattress market. Slowly people looking for beds and mattresses started to see the extra benefits from sleeping on Memory foam. Some of these benefits are hypo allergenic, anti microbial, anti bacterial, pressure relief, temperature sensitive, silent in use, conforms to the exact shape of the sleepers body.

Memory foam will also help relieve people who suffer from back problems, aching joints, sciatic pain, arthritis, rheumatism, circulatory problems and neck pain. When you sleep on a Memory foam mattress you will feel as though you are floating on air as there is no pressure on the body, this is called -The dynamic floatation effect- Also when sleeping on a memory foam mattress because there is less pressure on the body you will not toss and turn as much resulting in a deeper sleep rejuvenating the body waking up feeling refreshed.

All memory foam mattresses are not the same

Now that memory foam has found it’s way into the domestic bed market the product is available in different grades. These grades are known as foam densities. Although as a rule of thumb the higher the foam density the better quality the foam is, in the case of memory foam this is not always true. The reason for this is that foam is made up from a polymer structure, example tiny little air bubbles. If the foam density is too high then these tiny little air bubbles become very small, due to these tiny little air bubbles been very small the memory foam does not breath and becomes warmer than normal. We have found that memory foam with a density between 40 and 60kg performs the best in keeping the mattress cool. Bedworld also recommends memory foam mattresses with airflow channels built into the memory foam this is achieved by cutting away-convoluted channels into the visco-elastic helping the mattress to breath. Airflow is usually found on the deluxe memory foam mattresses. Another good feature of some quality memory foam mattresses is to cover the mattress with a cover made from coolmax fabric.

Why coolmax?

CoolMax by DuPont has been launched with great success in the performance clothing industry and is associated with leading brands such as Berghaus, The North Face, Adidas, Karrimor, Fila, Nike etc. The CoolMax Sleep System helps you keep cool whilst sleeping, so you sleep soundly and wake feeling rested.
